Month: February 2018

A little tropical escape is always needed and what better way to spend it then somewhere sunny. We stayed at a charming resort a couple of weeks ago that was situated right along the beach. Everywhere you looked was breathtaking and you seriously could not take one bad photo.
Since this was a week long getaway, I planned ahead, packed all of my go-to essentials and thought to share some favourites I am currently coveting. This maxi dress is gorgeous for dinner on the beach and I have worn these sandals non-stop on my last two trips. One other sure staple has perhaps been this chambray shirt (the perfect cover up and doubles as top)! The colour alone compliments anyone.

Up until the last year, I think sporadic would have been the best word to describe my approach to packing. I always packed last minute. Maybe because I loved planning trips, but hated packing for them. Call it mental anxiety or just plain procrastination; regardless I did it every time I went away. Horrible right? It would drive my boyfriend nuts. The best part was I used to pack way more things than I actually needed or forgot the necessities (which I now consider to be absolute must-haves). Thankfully, I’ve figured out a system that works (where I’ve reduced my mental burden in half LOL!) by packing a day earlier and learned how to pack smart. I’ve put together a list below of what to pack for the ultimate beach escape:

The hat that goes with everything (last seen here). From getting off the plane to lounging on the beach, this is an accessory you don’t want to forget in your carry on.
I normally pack ones that can be thrown on over a bikini for during the day and can also double up as something to wear to dinner at night (love this and this).
Otherwise known as the one piece I live in while on the beach. SO universal and looks great on everyone (love this).
It’s no secret that I love shoes. A pair of tie-up sandals work so well on vacation because it can elevate any look. I pretty much wear mine with almost everything! Buy it in tan and black and you’re set.
The fewer the bags you pack the better. Sounds weird coming from a blogger right? Trust me, bags can take up quite a bit of space in your luggage. Pick one or two of your favourites and opt for straw or rattan options in neutral colours. Love this and this.
SO easy to wear and accessorize.
I love a good one piece. This one from Aerie is a favourite (under $50). Aside from fit, I look for ones that can double up as a top; perfect for those poolside cocktails when paired with denim shorts. Love!
Non-negotiable; sunscreen helps to protect you against skin cancer. If you’re anything like me whereas you’re concerned about breakouts I recently discovered a newfound favourite from La Roche Posey (found here). No breakouts and it prevented me from getting sunburnt (seriously my go-to and I have the most sensitive skin).
Less is more. I let my skin breathe on vacation, but if I must wear any makeup I make sure to pack these three go-tos:
+ eyebrow pencil (a favourite from Tarte)
+ matte lip stain (love this one from Chanel)
+ concealer (a staple in my makeup bag found here)
If you love wearing highlighter, this one is perfect with a tan. You can use it to double up as a highlight on your cheeks and eyes for that perfect ‘natural glow‘.
As much as I try to pack just one pair, this is something I can’t seem to negotiate. You can pretty much get away with overpacking sunglasses (my rule of thumb). Hey, at least they don’t take up too much space in your luggage.
Books are perfect for the beach. Pack an old favourite to reread or here are a few of my current favourites:
Look out for my next roundup with some of my #OOTD from Domincan. Thanks for reading. xoxo

I’m a beach girl at heart so anytime I get the chance, I pack up my bags and head south to enjoy a little R & R. I mean, any excuse to get away from the freezing cold and indulge is simply the best. What’s not to love? Well, this time it was a no brainer to book a trip away to one of my favourite destination spots in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Why Punta Cana? Being on an island surrounded by beautiful, lush beaches is exactly my definition of a vacation and it never disappoints. Other than being the spot to go to when the temperatures drops, I think what I love most about it is that there’s so much to discover every time I visit.
Though I’ve stayed at many resorts on previous trips to Dominican Republic (previous post found here), my two favourites hands down are Paradisus Punta Cana and Bavaro Princess All Suites. Newly remodelled, both properties are just gorgeous with delicious fresh food (I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine a proper vacation without room service). It was funny to discover that both of these all inclusive spots were situated right beside each other.
The answer is a big YES! The amenities and services offered through each resort’s upgrade makes your trip experience that much better. With Paradisus, their Royal Service gives you access to their VIP lounge, private check-in and check-out, a personal butler service along with my absolute favourite, access to the private pool with Bali beds and a pool concierge. I loved how secluded their beach and pool area was. It was so relaxing and quiet that you felt like you were in your own little oasis.

With Bavaro Princesstheir Platinum package offers access to three of their neighboring resorts (Hotels Punta Cana Princess, Caribe Club Princess & Tropical Princess) along with exclusivity to their premium alcohol, private check-in, access to their beach club with luxury beds (hello private bar on the beach) and discounts on all of their spa treatments to name a few! These reasons alone were why I opted for the upgrade at each resort. I can’t say it enough: upgrade…. you will not be disappointed.
Navigating around both hotels was a breeze since there was always a shuttle available to take you to different parts of the resort (yes both resorts are fairly big). It’s not too long of a walk from the lobby to the beach, but if you’re looking to make dinner reservations on time, the shuttle is always your best bet. When it comes to activities to do, both resorts offer live entertainment at night (dance lessons, evening shows etc.) and during the day you can play tennis (lessons are offered), beach volleyball, golf at their local Golf Country Club or dance the night away on the beach. Did I mention they have the best Pina Coladas?!
As I am a bit more partial to relaxing while away, I was a huge fan of both of their spas. The YHI spa at Paradisus is gorgeous and tucked away that you feel like you have the entire spa to yourself during your treatment of choice. It was definitely one of the things I appreciated most about Paradisus. For those of you that want to venture off of the resort, I highly recommend trying out one of the excursion packages available (horseback riding, dune-buggies, zip lining etc). This info is available through each resort’s guest services. Trust me, these will be nothing short of epic.
Thank you to Paradisus Punta Cana and Bavaro Princess All Suites for going above and beyond and making each stay incredibly memorable.
Have you stayed at either resort? Planning to visit Punta Cana? Let me know below. xoxo
