3 WAYS TO STYLE SLIP ON SNEAKERS

MOTO JACKET | SWEATSHIRT | BOTTOMS | SLIP ON SNEAKERS | YSL BAG

Lately I’ve been opting for more comfort throughout my day to day, replacing my choice of go-to heels and expanding my collection of flat shoes. These slip ons were the first addition to my fall wardrobe, not only because they’re classic, but because they are the definition of the perfect day-to-day shoe. What makes them so flattering is the juxtaposition of the black and white, making them stand out in a subtle way. It really compliments any look and can be worn with just about anything- what’s not to love. I am so excited to have these on rotation throughout the Fall and will share some tips below on how to style slip on sneakers appropriately:
DENIM
My wardrobe consists of the good ol’ basics: every coloured tee possible, crew neck sweaters and too many pairs of denim. Denim is the perfect piece to wear on any given day and luckily slip on sneakers work well with them too.
ADD LEATHER
Slip on sneakers are cool when added to a pair of cropped trousers and a leather motto as it elevates any casual look, giving it that unexpected touch (very similar to what I wore in today’s post).
KEEP IT SIMPLE
For those of you that follow along on Sweet as Fiction know that I normally style my looks with balance. I love mixing chic pieces with masculine ones and keep my overall palette neutral. Another fun way to incorporate slip on sneakers is by adding them with your wardrobe staples (a sweater and skirt ensemble) or your travel uniform (joggers and loose long sleeve shirt). This instantly adds that effortless vibe while creating the perfect balance within your outfit of choice.

5 TIPS TO A SUCCESSFUL BLOG

As a new blogger one question you’re probably asking yourself is how do I stand out in a space where blogging is highly competitive and blogs are a dime a dozen? By no means am I an expert, but I’ve learned quite a bit over the last couple of years that have helped shape my path as a blogger. These can be resourceful to some of you (especially if you want to turn this into a career). Read on for 5 tips that I’ve found helpful in creating a successful blog:

BLOGGER OR INFLUENCER

What’s the difference between a blogger and an influencer and how does this relate to me? Knowing the difference between the two will help you understand what platforms to focus on, how often to post and who you’re catering to. You can be an influencer by having a smaller to larger engaged audience and your feed or photography isn’t perfectly laid out. Brands may only be looking to you for sales or awareness within your audience reach. You may or may not have a blog and have Instagram as your initial platform. A blogger can be both, posting consistently on their site and instagram while working with brands and putting out beautiful content. Their feed is cohesive and planned in advance. Kylie Jenner is a great example of an influencer while Song of Style is known as a blogger.

WEBSITE

A first impression goes a long way. People will decide within a couple of seconds if they like your brand or not. Having a cohesive theme across your social media platforms, especially on your blog will help reflect your aesthetic and professionalism. When designing your site, it’s always best to keep it simple with a clean layout and easy navigation. You don’t necessarily need to hire a web designer either as that can be costly. A design template can be purchased on etsy or pipdig and can be customizable.

BRAND PERSONALITY

Who are you as a brand? What does your brand stand for? Are you feminine and love simplicity or are you dark and edgy? Really focus on solidifying these details and creating content that reflects this so your audience connects with you. That said, the best advice is to always focus on putting out unique content. This can be shown within your style of photography, in the captions you put on your social media and your voice within your blog. No one else can copy that. Don’t be afraid to stand out from the crowd and really own it.

CONTENT

Understand who your target audience is and create content that they would want to read. Do you want your posts to be in trend or ones that can be re-shared no matter what time of the year? Something to think about. When it comes to the length of your blog posts, they should be a minimum of 300 words to rank well in google or your post will automatically be marked as not having enough information. I usually try to follow the minimum word count, using the right key words and titles within my blog posts. Using tools like google analytics and webmaster is also extremely helpful as it analyzes what content is gaining the most traffic and gives you insight to the types of google searches that leads readers to your blog. Having this level of understanding will help you create the right content catered to your audience.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography is extremely important for your blog and creates that lasting first impression to anyone visiting your site. Whether you are sharing a product, brand or your own content, having well lit images that are properly edited makes a difference in the world. This means using the right equipment, lighting and photo composition (rule of thirds). I usually look for locations that have an interesting backdrop that works with my aesthetic, shooting in natural light with a DSLR. If you can’t invest in a good camera, a smartphone works just as well. You really don’t have to spend a lot to get good quality images anymore! For editing, my favourite apps are VSCO, Facetune & Photoshop.

As with anything, success doesn’t happen over night. Stick to your vision and enjoy the process. It takes hard work and commitment to see results so put in the time, post quality content and post consistently. If you ever feel stuck, take a step back to regroup and keep at it. Remember every pro was once an amateur. xoxo

NAVY BOOTS

MERINO TURTLENECK | SKIRT | NAVY BOOTS | YSL CROSSBODY BAG | RINGS (1,2)

With the cooler weather here, I cannot help but add more pieces to my list of fall must-haves. Aside from the fact that there so many to choose from, cozy sweaters to every kind of boot imaginable, what I love most is that any of these can be paired with key staples from the previous season. Love that! Today I’d like to take a moment to discuss one of my current favourites starting with the one colour I’ll be wearing all season long; navy.

Although I love wearing a variety of colours, navy just happens to be the one colour that I reach for time and time again because of how versatile it is; the best part is that it compliments virtually everyone and pairs well with every colour possible. Today’s look is definitely the epitome of all of that. Monochromatic with a pop of navy, I can literally wear these boots for hours at a time. Other than being a statement piece, these are super comfortable to wear because of the platform heel. If you’re looking at adding a statement piece to your fall wardrobe, look no further! This one is such a fun piece to throw on especially if you’re looking to break up your everyday monochromatic look.

What do you think about adding a pop of colour for Fall? Let me know below. xoxo
