For the most part, my wardrobe contains everyday essentials that can be mixed and matched throughout each season. These are what I like to call transitional, versatile pieces. Many of you may have noticed I talk a lot about versatility here on Sweet As Fiction, perhaps a little too much, but I’ve always believed that having this particular quality makes each piece that much more special. Fashion is an investment and keeping practicality in mind while shopping will take your closet from trendy to timeless in the long run. As we move into a new season, I’ve put together a few tips on how to transition into fall appropriately:

LAYER:
When you live in a city where it’s cold for half of the year, you learn that layering is such a necessity. To avoid adding bulk within your layers, add pieces that are made with thinner materials; wool or cotton are my favourites to layer with.
INTRODUCE COLOUR:
Neutrals are my go-to for almost any occasion, but I love switching things up and adding colour too. That said, it never hurts to add a pop of colour to your overall outfit to tie it all together. Think a beautiful scarf or a statement bag.
WHEN IN DOUBT, ADD BOOTS:
From moto to over-the-knee, boots are the preferred go-to footwear throughout fall, which is partially why it’s one of my favourite seasons. You can literally find a boot for any occasion, which makes it such a great closet essential.
